I have been thinking on how colors affect not only a single life but a culture. Take blue for example. Blue has been used by many cultures around the world. I am not saying it is only true for modern times, but for centuries before. From the southern part of Spain to small towns in Mexico, this is a color that has deep roots in folk magic.
Blue has been used to paint from front doors to window shutters or trims around a house. The use of this color was not only for decoration but for powerful mystical significance. Blue has been used as a very simple yet powerful form of protective magic against the “evil eye” and negative energies.
If painting a door in blue or trims of the house is out of the question, we can still be creative as to how to incorporate it; in our personal “universe” and the surrounding area like garden, exterior and interior walls.
You don’t have to break the bank to add this power color to your home and your magickal practice. With a little creativity and a focused intention you can make blue part of your life.
For the house there are ways to incorporate the color. From adding blue flowers to the garden, blue ornaments, or blue wind chimes.
The interior perhaps can be done in shades of light blue for a room, or a blue fabric cover for the magickal altar. Blue stones in a container of water placed close to the front door creates a powerful protection charm. Blue curtains in a room, to protect from outside negative frequencies.
Blue is a widespread way of protecting self from negative energy. With its soothing shades it has been used in jewelry as well, for its powerful magical property. One of the most popular and that which springs to mind right away is Turquoise. In some parts of the world for example, wearing this stone helps in guarding off the evil eye and repels bad luck. it is a powerful magickal stone. You can make small charms, or jewelry set in your favorite medium. If you like to make your own jewelry then you can incorporate blue glass or plastic beads. They will have the same magickal effect as it is the color and the intention that matters, not so much the material.
Then we also have protection charms made of fabric and assorted personal choice items that can be carried either in a purse, pocket, backpack, etc! The charm can be sewn around with small blue beads charged for protection for added power. A blue purse, blue comb, blue blankets! and the list goes on, the creative is limitless!
When did the practice of using blue with a mystical significance was started? It is not known for certain. Although it seems that it has its beginnings in the shores of the Mediterranean, I personally think it goes back to Goddess. It makes sense to me that blue is one of her power colors. Blue for her universal power, limitless and mysterious. Like the oceans, lake and rivers, and the bright blue sky. Her power surrounds us everyday and protect us if we so choose to use it for positive magick. Although that is but one of her colors, it has survived in the collective consciousness for centuries, enough so that we continue to use it in magick to this very day.
So next time you think about the best color for magickal purposes, call upon the energies of Goddess power through this most mystical of colors..Who knows what awesome things might be realized in the outcome of your goals.
Until I write again,
